The Law of Multiple Proportions is a law in chemistry that states when two elements combine to form multiple compounds, the ratios of the masses of the second element that combine with a given mass of the first element will be ratios of small whole numbers.

This law was first discovered by the English chemist John Dalton in 1803.

The law states that if two elements, A and B, combine to form two or more chemical compounds, then the ratio of the masses of B that combine with a fixed mass of A are in a ratio of small whole numbers.

For example, if one measure of carbon combines with two measures of oxygen, forming carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, then the ratio of oxygen to carbon in the two compounds will be 2:1 and 1:1 respectively.

This law is also known as Dalton's Law of Multiple Proportions.

This law is used to help identify the chemical composition of a compound and is an important tool in the study of chemical reactions.

It is also used to calculate the molecular weights of compounds and to help determine the chemical formula of a compound.
