What is Avogadro's Law in Chemistry? Learn with Kimavi in just one minute!

Avogadro's Law states that the volume of a given amount of gas at a constant temperature and pressure is directly proportional to the number of moles of the gas.

This law is named after Italian scientist Amedeo Avogadro.

Avogadro's Law is often expressed as V=nRT/p, where V is the volume of the gas, n is the number of moles, R is the gas constant, T is the temperature, and p is the pressure.

The law implies that the volume of a gas is directly proportional to the amount of substance in it.

For example, when a sample of hydrogen gas (H2) is placed in a sealed container, the volume of the gas is directly proportional to the number of moles of H2 in the container.

Avogadro's Law can be used to calculate the amount of a gas present in a given volume at a given temperature and pressure.

It can also be used to determine the molar mass of a gas when the volume, temperature, and pressure are known.
