The Overstory by Richard Powers (2018)

The Overstory follows nine people from different walks of life, all of whom are united by their connection to, and commitment to, the trees and forests of the world.

The novel centers on the themes of nature and its power, as well as the idea of how human actions can shape the environment.

The characters include a Vietnam veteran, a scientist, an activist, a writer, a teacher, and a reformed logger.

They come to realize that the stories of their lives are deeply intertwined with the stories of the trees, and that they have a shared destiny.

The novel is set across multiple generations and is both an exploration of the relationship between humans and nature, and a call to action to protect the environment.

The characters in The Overstory come to recognize that the fight to save the environment is a fight for all of humanity, and that the fate of the world lies in their hands.

The novel also examines the power of activism and how it can bring about real change.
