The Cat in the Hat is a children's book written by Dr. Seuss in 1957.

The story follows two children, Sally and her unnamed brother, on a rainy day when they are left home alone.

Suddenly, a tall, anthropomorphic cat wearing a red and white-striped hat and a red bow tie appears.

The Cat proceeds to show the children a few tricks and games with the help of a few objects he pulled out of his hat.

The Cat's tricks, however, cause more messes than the children can clean up.

Finally, the Cat brings in two more characters, Thing 1 and Thing 2, to help clean up the mess.

After all the mess is cleaned up, the Cat disappears as quickly as he arrived, leaving the children to explain the chaos to their mother.
