Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (1818)
Frankenstein is a novel about a scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who creates a creature from parts of the dead and brings it to life.
Although Victor is initially pleased with his accomplishment, he soon realizes the horror of his creation.
The creature is shunned by society and is left to fend for himself in the wilderness.
The creature learns to read, talk and understand human emotions, but due to his physical appearance, he is still treated as an outsider.
The creature goes on a quest to seek revenge on Victor, who he blames for his isolation and suffering.
Victor, on the other hand, is haunted by the creature and driven to the brink of madness.
He is determined to find and destroy the creature, but his efforts are ultimately futile.
